If you've ever traveled on a plane before, you'll be very familiar with the hype surrounding turning electronic devices off or putting them in airplane mode during a flight.

And you've thought 'well, this is annoying but I don't want to interfere with the pilot's navigational stuff so...'

Apparently this is utter bull.

The reason you're told to turn them off or switch them to airplane mode is basically because they annoy pilots and air traffic controllers.

According to Daily Mail, in the headsets of the pilots a phone will cause a noise that you're probably familiar with. It usually occurs when a phone is near a set of speakers and makes an indescribable, shuddering sound. Almost like a CD is skipping.

So, imagine that right in your ear. That's what they're dealing with when you're ignoring the rule...hmmmmm
