Letter Hidden More Than 50 Years Reveals Amazing Secret

81-year-old Tony Trapani was clearing out a filing cabinet belonging to his wife when he came across a letter addressed to him, sent in 1959.

It was from an ex-lover and contained information that Tony had a five-year-old son, born in 1953.

“Why my wife hid that letter is beyond me,” Says Mr Trapani, who tried unsuccessfully to have children in his marriage.

That child, Samuel Childress, is now 61 and the pair only met recently. 

Asked how he felt about the meeting, Mr Trapani said: “How does anybody feel when they have a newborn son?”

Mr Childress, who grew up in Pennsylvania, had always thought his father received the letter and did not want anything to do with him. “I always asked my mom, ‘What does he look like?’ and she said, ‘Go look in the mirror’,” says Mr Childress.

“He is my full son that I had my whole life,” Mr Trapani told WXMI-TV, crying.

The family will have a paternity test done, just to be sure.
