Euphoria star shares thoughts after emotional penultimate episode

Jacob Elordi has described the brutal on-screen death of his Euphoria character Nate Jacobs as "a cool way to go". Following a shocking episode that saw the long-running antagonist buried alive and fatally bitten by a snake, the actor, 28, made the comment while speaking in a post-show recap with HBO after Sunday's (24.05.26) episode of the hit HBO drama, created by Sam Levinson, in which his character met a grisly end amid a botched attempt to repay a criminal debt.

Jacob said: "Nate was someone who has made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices. It's cool to see it all come to what it's come to."

In his farewell episode, Nate is placed in a coffin by gangster Naz, played by Jack Topalian, as collateral for a debt, with a pipe supplying oxygen while his wife Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney, 28, attempts to raise the money.

The plan unravels when a snake enters through the pipe and fatally bites him.

Reflecting on filming the claustrophobic sequence, Jacob said: "It was really nice, actually – it was quite peaceful in there."

He added: "My shoulders were touching the side, and they couldn't move my arms, then they would drill the lid on it, and it would get dark."

Jacob also described the added complication of working with live animals during filming, noting Sam Levinson's intention for realism.

He said: "Snakes were rattling, which was really alarming when you are locked in a box."

Despite the tension, he described one of the animals used as "super cute" and "really cuddly".

He added: "He was a sleepy snake. I had to kind of nudge him to get him to come up."

The actor, who has also been linked in recent headlines to Kendall Jenner, said the production team prioritised safety, ensuring oxygen flow and limiting the time spent inside the coffin.

His departure from the series comes after appearing in 23 episodes across its run, charting Nate's progression from an abusive teenager to a subdued adult facing mounting consequences.

Jacob said: "This show is a massive part of – not just my career – but my life."

He added: "It's been amazing and I'm so proud of being a part of this."

Nate's storyline has been central to Euphoria, including his relationships with Maddy, played by Alexa Demie, and Cassie, as well as his troubled family history involving his father Cal, played by the late Eric Dane.

Speaking previously to Entertainment Weekly, Jacob said: "I act to understand a different experience, to express an experience that's different to my own."

He added: "Playing (Nate) taught me a lot about empathy and patience, which is strange with a character like that."

Known widely for his breakout role in Netflix's The Kissing Booth trilogy, Jacob has become one of the defining faces of Euphoria, which has run for three seasons and remains one of HBO's most talked-about series.

Nate's death sets up the season three finale on May 31, and after 23 episodes, one coffin, and a cuddly snake, it's safe to say he went out swinging.
