A diner has been offered a year's supply of socks after an embarrassing encounter with a hand dryer in a toilet cubicle.
Gordie Wallace had just eaten at Aberdeen's Handmade Burger Company store when he visited the toilet. While he stood, the automatic hand dryer went off causing the phrase 'splashing out' to take on a new and unwelcome meaning.
Since posting the image to the burger franchise's Facebook page on Sunday, Gordie's toilet troubles have been shared nearly 2000 times, accumulating more than 18,000 'likes' and hundreds of comments.
The 31-year-old Glaswegian, who now lives in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, explained how the dryer put a dampener on his evening.
"We had a really good meal and everybody was feeling good.
"Then I went to to the toilet and things took a turn for the worse. It was an unfortunate placing of the automatic hand dryer which caused the problem.
"Halfway through my urination, the dryer decided to go on full pelt and blew my stream all over the place, covering my trousers and leaving me with a soggy trainer on my left foot.
"I was absolutely soaked in pee and it was really embarrassing. I didn't get any sympathy - my girlfriend was nearly wetting herself with laughter.
"I guess it happens to most guys at some stage in their lives. But this was the real thing. And my sock and trainer are both ruined."
Handmade Burger Co apologised to Gordie and offered him a new pair of trainers and a year's supply of fresh socks by way of compensation.
They said: "Hi Gordie, we’re really sorry to hear about your experience in our Union Square restaurant.
"This is the first time that this has happened in the five years that we have been open. We’d like to send you a pair of trainers and a supply of socks every month for a year to compensate.
"Also, as you can see from the picture attached (above), we have asked all of our restaurant teams to perform rigorous tests in their toilets to ensure that this is a one-off experience as a result of this.
"If you’d like to direct message us your home address we will be able to arrange your trainers and sock subscription."
Following the burger company's response, Gordie messaged us to say: "I can't believe it - very generous and good customer service! Wonder what Michael O'Leary would have done!!"
