The man behind a Facebook cheating uproar has broken his silence. Matt was the centre of scandal yesterday when he kissed a girl who wasn't his girlfriend. She then posted the photo online trying to find Matt.
Matty Steven, from Wythenshawe, has spoken out after Pippa McKinney, 22, from Stockport, claimed he cheated on his girlfriend after meeting her on a night out.
The picture of Matty kissing Pippa in AXM club in Manchester went viral - but now Matty claims he and his girlfriend, Emily, had been on a break for three weeks when the snap was taken.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Matty said: 'Me and Emily had been together for two years but had gone on a break. So I do what most lads would do and went on a lads’ night out. We were drinking and got chatting to some girls.
'Yes we had a quick kiss but it was a drunken mistake. Everyone is making out like I was in a relationship, but I wasn’t. If I was it would have been cheating, but I’m not a cheat and don’t think I’ve done anything wrong.'
Matty's been forced to leave his home town because of the ordeal and says the situation's been blown out of proportion.Â
Matty says he loves Emily but she has blocked his number and dumped him publicly in light of the images that surfaced.
Matt wrote the below on his Facebook:
Pippa said of her initial Facebook post:Â 'I was absolutely gutted. I know I had only met him on a night out but we instantly hit it off and I really did like him. I thought he looked stunning and he was really friendly, we just clicked.
'But when I realised he had a girlfriend I couldn't believe it. I felt really embarrassed, especially once the post went viral. I feel embarrassed for his girlfriend too as this is not her fault.
'Whenever I go out I feel like people are looking at me now as it seems everyone has heard about what happened. I just thought he was a really nice guy but I was obviously wrong.
'I do feel a bit sorry for him now as there is so many people laughing at him but then he shouldn't have done what he did and he will have to face the consequences.
'I have been getting lots of abuse from people too but at the end of the day I was innocently looking for a lad I liked who I thought was single - I didn't do anything wrong.
'From now on I'm going to be really wary before speaking to anyone else in a club or a bar in future as it has put me off. I would definitely be checking their number properly before I left if I did meet anyone I liked, but this incident has made me very wary to meet lads in bars.'
Â
'His girlfriend sent me a message asking exactly what had happened so I told her. She was really nice and I felt really bad for her. I feel like a bit of an idiot because it has caused a riot.
'I messaged Matty and he told me to take the photo down and said he knew he had f**** up. He told me he didn't remember anything.'
