Weekend Watch on Neon with Soundkeeper Brooke

Ahem, sorry Lead Detective Sound Keeper Brooke*

This isn’t just your average watchlist. Each week, Soundkeeper Brooke goes undercover into the depths of Neon, decoding clues and uncovering hidden gems to bring you a top-secret selection of shows and films.

Every week comes with a new theme - think of it as your mission briefing. Whether it’s mystery, suspense, or something totally unexpected, Brooke’s picks are always worth investigating.

Your assignment: Scroll down to reveal this week’s classified recommendations. Then, grab your popcorn and get ready to binge.

Week 1:

Top Trenchcoat Twisters (aka Detective Whodunnits)

  • Knives Out - A rich guy mysteriously dies, and suddenly everyone in his family remembers how to lie professionally. The house is full of secrets, the suspects are full of themselves. I watched it twice…once for the mystery, once for the knitwear.
  • True Detective - Each season of True Detective throws a fresh murder at detectives barely holding it together (unlike me who is thriving, obviously). With four seasons now streaming on Neon, buckle up and trust no one. Especially the quiet ones.
  • Memento - A guy with memory loss tries to solve a murder using Polaroids, tattoos, and vibes. This film is both brilliant and confusing!
  • The Nice Guys - Two idiots, one case, zero chill. Based in the 70’s, it is pretty much chaos in flared pants, and I loved every second. Just trust me its f***** great
  • Scooby Doo! Return to Zombie Island - There’s mystery, mayhem, and way too many things rising from the swamp. I watched it with snacks and mild regret. Classic Scooby chaos.

Week 2:

Breakup Binge (Things to Watch when you are Heartbroken 💔)

  • How to Be Single - Need I say more? The message of this movie is basically about being happy so provided you aren't still at the angry stage... this is a perfect feel-good romp.
  • School of Rock - For when you just want an uplifting film with zero romance involved!
  • Sex and the City – Who better to call on when your heart hurts than your besties? When love fails, friendship slays
  • The Sex lives of College Girls – Heartbreak chaos filled with messy hookups and bad decisions. Sign me up
  • Cast Away – For when heartbreak feels isolating, but at least you still have Wi-Fi and don’t have to befriend a volleyball named Wilson. 🏐💔

Week 3:

Main Character Energy (When you want to feel iconic)

  • Succession - Corporate power plays and family betrayal, everyone is a main character in this show
  • The White Lotus - Every season drops you into a luxury resort with a cast of chaotic, mysterious guests however Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya is the ultimate main character icon in this one.
  • I May Destroy You - Michaela Coel is that girl. In I May Destroy You, she serves brains, bravery, and big main character energy. It’s messy, powerful, and totally unforgettable, just like any icon should be.
  • Broad City - Two chaotic queens taking on NYC one weird day at a time. Broad City is peak main character energy. Abbi and Ilana are the best friends you wish you had (but your life would never recover).
  • The Diary of a Teenage Girl - Messy, bold, and totally unfiltered. The Diary of a Teenage Girl is the ultimate coming-of-age story with big main character vibes.
