This is one to tell mum. Best. Excuse. Ever.

But it's also pretty gross...

The reason you shouldn't be making your bed every morning is because of these dirty little buggers.

Dust mites.

These microscopic little mites are running around in your bed with the average bed home to 1.5 million of them!

House dust mites feed on human skin scales and the allergens they produce - which is actually their poo... - are inhaled whilst you sleep and are a major cause of illnesses like asthma.

So basically at night as you sweat and roll around, your skin flakes off and the mites and having a grand old time! Even more so when you get up and tightly make you bed, trapping them inside...

Ewwwww

BUT this can be avoided by just being lazy and not making your bed! (Those with OCD tendencies however may struggle with this)

Dr. Stephen Pretlove of Kingston University’s School of Architecture said.“We know that mites can only survive by taking in water from the atmosphere using small glands on the outside of their body. Something as simple as leaving a bed unmade during the day can remove moisture from the sheets and mattress so the mites will dehydrate and eventually die.”

Experts recommend leaving your bed unmade for the entire day and making it when you get home later on. By that point, many of the mites will have died. Thank god.

Go forth and be lazy.
