Unless you've religiously worn goggles when you go swimming in pools your whole life, you know the problems that the pool's chemicals (namely chlorine) can cause for your eyes.

According to an official from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in America, it's not completely chlorine's fault that your eyes are all red and stinging after a day in the pool.

Here's what the official, who goes by the hugely appropriate name of Dr. Michael J Beach, had to say:

"Chlorine binds with all the things it’s trying to kill from your bodies, and it forms these chemical irritants. That’s what’s stinging your eyes. It’s the chlorine binding to the urine and sweat."

OH MY GOD SO IT'S SWEAT AND URINE DOING THAT!? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. P.s it's also feces, body oils and cosmetics.

Excuse us while we NEVER GO SWIMMING IN THE POOL EVER AGAIN.
