Freda Black, known for her work as a prosecutor on the Michael Peterson case, was found dead in her Durham, North Carolina home on Sunday US time.
Those who watched the 2004 documentary mini-series The Staircase, will recognise black as the woman who helped prosecute Peterson. The series was recently uploaded with updated episodes on Netflix.
Black was 57 at the time of her death and leaves behind two daughters.
Since the original release of The Staircase, Black had multiple incidents driving under the influence, resulting in losing her driver’s license. At this time, no information on her death has been released.
Those who knew Black say she will be remembered as having “incredible empathy and understanding.”
