Here’s more proof that social media and smartphones really aren't too good for our health and well-being.

A study has found that checking Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat all day really wrecks your sleep.

Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh examined 1,788 adults aged 19 to 32, asking them questions about sleep and their social media usage.

The findings where that people who used social media heavily were three times more likely to have disturbed sleep.

Th researchers warned that people who checked sites obsessively all day long could be the most at risk.

‘This may indicate that frequency of social media visits is a better predictor of sleep difficulty than overall time spent on social media,’ said Dr. Jessica Levenson.

‘If this is the case, then interventions that counter obsessive ‘checking’ behavior may be most effective.’

Dr Brian Primack said, ‘Difficulty sleeping may lead to increased use of social media, which may in turn lead to more problems sleeping.’

‘This cycle may be particularly problematic with social media because many forms involve interactive screen time that is stimulating and rewarding and, therefore, potentially detrimental to sleep.’

So, if you can bare to, cut back on your device usage!
