One dead after stabbing at Auckland dairy

A homicide investigation is underway after a man was fatally stabbed during a robbery at a Henderson dairy this morning.

Police were called to the Great North Rd shop at 7.29am today and on arrival, discovered a seriously injured man.

It's believed the victim is the dairy owner.

Ambulance staff attempted first aid however the man died at the scene.

Enquiries are in the very early stages however at this time police believe the man has been stabbed in the neck.

A homicide investigation has been launched. Police have confirmed that the dead man is believed to work in the shop where the incident has occurred.

At the moment the offender has not been located. A large number of police are at the scene and officers are speaking to several witnesses who were in the area at the time.

Police have cordoned off the scene and a large blue tarpaulin covers the area surrounding the dairy.

Nearby shop owners said the owner of the dairy was stabbed in this morning's incident.

They described him as a "really nice guy" who was well known among the other shop owners in that section of the street. Great North Rd has now opened to traffic.

A press conference will be held at the Henderson Police Station at 2.30pm this afternoon.

More details will be released as they are confirmed.

Auckland Transport had earlier warned commuters to expect delays around the Henderson Town Centre.

It confirmed at 9.50am the road had reopened. Residual delays are expected.
