We've just taken it for granted, majority of Apple product have a “i” in front of its name, but we've never really thought about why that letter is there and what it actually stands for.

When Apple first released the iMac back in 1998, Steve Jobs actually revealed the answer.

Obviously a majority of us didn't even care back then (or we were kids and too busy playing with barbies), but thanks to a resurfaced video of the iMac’s introduction, we can find out now that we actually care.

Jobs explains that first and foremost the “i” stands for Internet.

“An iMac comes from the excitement of the marriage of the Internet with the simplicity of Macintosh,” Jobs said at the release event. “We are targeting this for the number one use that consumers tell us they want a computer for, which is to get on the Internet.”

“’i’ also means some other things to us,” he continued. His slide revealed four more things the “i” stands for: Individual, Instruct, Inform, and Inspire.
