‘When I was initially offered the opportunity to collaborate with The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co, I was ecstatic, as I hadn't been since I was 9 years old and I was excited to experience the thrill as an adult!

We headed on the road down to Waitomo, which is only around 2.5 hours out of Auckland, and once we got there we were greeted and told everything we needed to know by our incredible guide, Mitch.

It was really cool to get up close and personal with an avenue of New Zealand adventure tourism that people from all corners of the globe come to New Zealand specifically to experience. How lucky are we to have it right in our backyard?! Proud Kiwi!!

The highlight for me was the balance of exhilarating moments, like jumping backwards off rocks through waterfalls, and then the incredibly aw-inspiring moments,like watching the cave ceiling alight with thousands of glowworms.


Initially, I did think that we’d be super cold, seeing as it’s May, but I was very pleasantly surprised to find that we didn’t get cold in the water at all! Those wet-suits are made of tougher stuff, and are toastyyyyy as!

I also loved that Black Water Rafting Co make a conscious effort to be mindful of the environment they operate in, ensuring they do what they can to be environmentally conscious with their tours.

Our guide, Mitch, was super informed and calm, helping us navigate the more thrilling parts of the experience, and had a keen insight as to the best places for us to get good footage and content.

The depth of his knowledge and patience in helping us with where to put our hands and feet when clambering over rocks was incredible, and he made sure to gently push us outside our comfort zones in a way that we felt supported to do so.


I have already recommended the Legendary Black Water Rafting Co. to several people and will continue to do so! The whole experience from a weekend get-away in Waitomo, to getting the adrenaline pumping in the caves,staying in cabins, drinking hot raro, and eating delicious,hot tomato soup, was such a good way to switch off from a busy work week and reconnect with the great outdoors.
