The margherita pizza measured in at 1.5km long which beat the world record previously set by Spain!

Italian representatives were handed its prize by Lorenzo Veltri, a Guinness World Records judge, who attended Milan's 2015 Expo to measure the 1595.45m pizza.

The recipe included 1500kg of tomatoes, litres upon litres of extra virgin olive oil and more than one and a half tonnes of mozzarella.

300m of the pizza were donated to a food bank, the leftovers were eaten by the crowd of 30,000.

The pizza, which sat along more than 800 tables, was designed and cooked by 80 chefs brought in from all over Italy.

The dish took three minutes per metre to cook and had to be made in five specially adapted ovens.

The pizza was made in an effort to help garner international support for Italy’s attempt to get the dish added to UNESCO’s cultural heritage list.

So far the petition has over 300,000 signatures.
