Taylor Marshall was born a perfectly healthy baby boy, but when he was 8 months old, he was diagnosed with a form of meningitis.
The doctors only gave Taylor hours to live and instructed his 22-year-old mother Terri to say her final goodbyes.
He ended up in a coma for 17 days...and then...he woke up.
Taylor unfortunately had to have his left leg amputated, along with all fingers and thumbs, and the toes on his right foot. Despite all this, doctors and nurses have been amazed at the little boy laughing and giggling the whole time he’s been in hospital.
His mum, Terri, said:
"Taylor has managed to keep a smile on his face throughout everything. It was just a few weeks ago that I was told to say my final goodbyes to him. I can’t believe what a little fighter he is, I knew he would lose his leg, fingers and toes when they all turned black. Taylor’s kidneys also failed and he was left on dialysis. It was horrifying but all I cared about was him surviving so I tried my best to stay positive. Taylor will stay in hospital until around November as he needs regular skin grafts on his damaged skin. We are determined not to allow meningitis to ruin Taylor’s future."
