When Olivia put Drake lyrics in her Tinder profile, she didn't think she'd be getting terrifying threats.
It started with this. 23-year-old Olivia is a Drake fan. The young, single Sydney girl has captioned her Tinder profile with the line:
“Type of girl that will suck you dry and then eat some lunch with you.”
The line is from a Drake song.
It was screenshotted and uploaded to Facebook with the line "stay classy ladies". It has since gone viral and sparked fury online with trolls slut shaming Olivia.
When Olivia got wind of the post, she took to Facebook to set the story straight - but not before copping a lot of abuse.
The backlash from random punters weighing in has been so awful, to the point where people were threatening Olivia with violence - she's asked the police to step in as she begins to fear for her safety.
She and her friend have started a petition on change.org to contribute to eradicating sexual violence:
"On Tuesday 25th of August 2015 my friend had a screenshot of her Tinder profile posted publically on a stranger’s Facebook profile. She was called a slut, told her behaviour was disgusting, and asked what her parents would think.
When we began to defend her, commenters began to threaten the said women’s safety and the safety of all women involved.
We were told -
“Do me a favour go home and slap your mother obviously your father never did it enough”
“I’d rape you if you were better looking”
“If I could f**k your mother if I seen her”
“If anything you’ve proven the only good thing a woman’s mouth is good for is to get face f**ked till she turns blue and then have a man hot load shot straight down it”
In a Facebook post, Olivia's friend said:
"The comments started to get pretty intense and at one point people starting insinuating that my friend should be raped because of her tinder profile.
She uploaded the photo and the comments to shame him for his behaviour of harassment and violence against women.
His equally uneducated friends starting to chime in basically attacking me and all my friends, calling us sluts, saying we should be raped etc etc etc.
This kind of behaviour is what we call 'normalisation of violence against women' and it is really really scary and damaging, it is the reason that every day our mothers, our sisters and our friends are killed by men, and raped by men.
Every time you 'playfully' tell a woman to get back in the kitchen, every time you smack a girl on the bum because its funny, everytime you make a joke about rape YOU are contributing to a society where unfortunately women are not safe.
I'm also going to shame this man, who aside from insinuating he is going to rape my mother, is also a great example of how NOT TO TALK TO WOMEN just incase anyone needed a bit of help.
I'll also be taking these pictures to the police, be warned men, the internet is not longer your invisibility cloak. I am coming after you and I will not be stopped."
Olivia's original post stated:
"S/O to boys posting your tinder profile on Facebook, I wasn't aware I had to put my CV in my Tinder Bio apparently Drake lyrics aren't okay? Shame on you Chris Hall for your ignorance of Drake & good taste. #SexualViolenceWontBeSilenced"
