We've all had one of those nights where the morning after just isn't bearable at all.Â
But, there is a preventive measure you can to take avoid waking up and feeling like an utter pile of shit.
Some Australian scientists at CSIRO (The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation), have found that eating a pear or drinking at least 220ml of pear juice before drinking can dramatically reduce the symptoms of a hangover.
The researchers believe that the pear juice helps to metabolise the alcohol in the blood.Â
"Reductions were seen in blood acetaldehyde levels, the toxic metabolic thought to be responsible for the hangover symptoms, with pear juice consumption. Overall hangover severity, as measured by a 14 item hangover symptom scale, was significantly reduced in the pear group compared to those having a placebo drink, with the most pronounced effect seen on the specific symptom of ‘trouble concentrating". Even if it only makes you feel 10% better the next morning, then it's worth it.Â
