As much as we're in denial about it, Autumn is here. With that brings the dreaded cold and flu season, but we've happened upon a wee trick to help with any sore throats that hit you over Autumn and Winter.

Gargling salt water and sipping hot water and honey can sometimes help, but we bet you haven't tried this as a form of relief... marshmallows.

Turns out that eating marshmallows is apparently helpful in soothing a sore throat!

A blogger, Ashley Brown, explained on her blog, 7th House on the Left, why marshmallows are a sore throat soother; "Eat three or four marshmallows to sooth a sort throat. Greg [Brown] has actually used this a few times but I always thought it to be quite odd."

"Come to find out, there's a scientific reason to why it works. Apparently, the gelatin is very helpful when it comes to relieving irritating and soothing pain in your throat. And I'm sure it's a lot more tasty than nasty throat lozenges."

There really is research behind this, as researchers at Rutgers have found that the combination of amino acids in the marshmallows are linked to accelerated healing!

UM YUM. For once we're actually looking forward to having a sore throat, so we can try this beaut of a treatment out!
