This is what Yoda nearly looked like in Star Wars and we can't get our heads around it

So it turns out, one of the most iconic Star Wars characters almost looked like a garden gnome?!

Digital Spy recently visited the new Star Wars Identities exhibition at The O2 in London and they stumbled across a painting by concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.

The late designer's art went on to form much of the look of the Star Wars universe, as well as Raiders of the Lost Ark and ET: The Extra-Terrestrial. However, it's fair to say we're quietly stoked that the original concept of Yoda wasn't used.

In the end, the late designer’s Yoda was completely overhauled, and Muppet men Jim Henson and Frank Oz designed the final concept for the beloved character. 

The only similarities between the original concept and the actual Yoda, are the pointy ears, white hair and tiny size.
