They say "age is just a number" but when getting into a relationship, age can make quite the difference to how your relationship functions.

Whilst you can't control your feelings for someone, it may still be best to know what age differences will provide the most difficult hurdles in the future.

A recent study has found that the 'best' age gap, in terms of marital satisfaction, is none whatsoever.

The research found that both men and women tended to be more satisfied with a younger spouse and more dissatisfied with an older spouse.

In particular, the study found that men who are married to younger wives are the most satisfied, and men who are married to older wives are the least satisfied.

Women are also particularly dissatisfied when they’re married to older husbands and particularly satisfied if they’re married to younger husbands. (Megan hehe!)

This gap disappears after the marriage has lasted between 6-10 years.

With differing ages, there are also more likely to be differing views on family issues and expenditure, which can become points of tension.

However, there's always an exception to every rule, so if you are happy in your relationship then you just keep doing you!
