Ok so are you ready for some life changing news?
Someone from thespinoff.co.nz decided to do some research as to what the 'K' in K Bar actually stands for and the results are extremely disappointing.
The K in K Bar stands for… Kwench.
Yep. Your world will never be the same again, right?
Hayden from the Spinoff wanted to know what the K in K Bar even meant and after hitting up all of Whittaker's social media accounts he ended up with a tweet from Seven Sharp reporter Kristin Hall, who claimed the “K” stood for “kwench”.
No. This is not okay. This can't be true. But the evidence stacked up.
A blog written by what seemed to be an elderly person spoke of a youth spent subsisting on “Kwench Bars”, “boots” and “shoes”.

A tweet to Whittaker’s from 2011 contained only the word “kwench”.

And then came the response from the brand themselves.

They were asked: “Do you have any info on why it was named Kwench?”
And what did Whittaker’s go and bloody say?

OK WHAT. WHY WOULD YOU SPELL THE WORD QUENCH WITH A K!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?
And then comes the 'I thought quench was used to describe thirst' part of it. The dictionary definition of quench is:
1. to drink liquid so that you stop being thirsty:
2. to use water to put out a fire
Kwenching is an activity exclusively reserved for liquid.
K Bars are literally the opposite of liquid. They are break-your-teeth hard. What is going on with this? We can't handle it.
