Just when we thought smart phones could do everything! A new device has been invented to pair up with your smart phone, using an app to test a sperm sample. The group of scientists behind the invention aimed to create a device that would take out the anxiety and high cost of testing sperm at a fertility clinic.
There is a lot of negative stigma surrounding infertility in men, and the app could make the process of finding out more private.
The testing kit comes with a phone application and external camera to analyse sperm up close. the application is the first of it's kind to analyse both the concentration and how the cells move, which is imperative to studying the fertility of the sperm.
The kit works by taking a small amount of semen on a disposable microchip, which is then connected to an optical attachment. The attachment is then connected to a smart phone (So don't worry, the sperm doesn't come in contact with the phone). which then analyses the sperm through an app.
The prototype continues to undergo improvements but the creators hope to have it on the market in the next year.
