Drop your phone in any wet substance and automatically your heart sinks, but try not to despair toooo much cause here's a handy new hack to help save it.

The old “dry it out in a bowl of rice” tip is a common one, but it turns out there’s another substance that's even better for absorbing all that water.

Kitty litter.

Phone company Gazelle says that crystal kitty litter is better at reviving your phone than rice. The crystal part is important – don’t use the grainy, cardboard based stuff.

It does actually kind of make sense, as kitty litter it is literally designed to absorb water.

However, Refinery29 called in an expert who didn't agree with the advice, saying, "We are not in favor of using cat litter, or rice, to fix water damage. While both of these items may aid in the 'drying' process, they almost always don’t work. The only proper way to fix water damage is with anisopropyl bath, or using an ultrasonic cleaner. These are the only methods that can address the corrosion on the board which often happens when your phone is dropped in water."

So, if you want to try the kitty litter technique it's at your own risk!
