We've got some very bad news for you night owls: going to bed late can WRECK your waistline.
A study has found that those who go to bed after 11pm are more likely to binge on junk food and alcohol.
Data from fitness tracker Jawbone found that on average, people who go to bed late consume an extra 220 calories per day.
The findings were based on data collected from hundreds of thousands of Jawbone UP users – a fitness wristband which monitors exercise, sleep, and the alcohol and food they consume.
Jawbone data scientist Kristin Aschbacher wrote: ‘Early birds tended to eat healthier foods on the whole.’
‘This builds on our previous findings that people log more meals high in fats and sugars late in the evening.’
‘We hope this paints a picture of what a good night’s sleep might do.'
