If you're sitting at your desk wondering how many more times "Sorry" by Justin Bieber can play on repeat in your head, you can stop suffering, because we have a solution for when you get a song stuck in your head.

All you need to do is start chewing! A study has found that chewing on a piece of gum can finally get those songs unstuck from your mind.

Researchers at the University of Reading conducted the study on 98 participants. It found that those who chewed on gum were able to get the song stuck in their head to leave by 33 percent. Those who took part in the study listened to "catchy" songs like "Payphone" by Maroon 5 and "Play Hard" by David Guetta. People who were asked to do nothing after hearing one of the songs did not get the song out of their head as easily.

Essentially the reason that chewing gum appears to work is because it interrupts the thoughts in our head.

Songs stuck in our heads, or "earworms," affect about 90 percent of the population on a weekly basis and date all the way back to the 19th century.

So next time one of Tay Swift's song just won't leave your head, grab yourself some gum.
