Whilst getting dumped sucks, it's not exactly fun to do the dumping either.
Most people would feel genuinely bad about hurting someone else and would want to do it in the nicest way possible.
Brigham Young University in Utah looked into the actual, scientific best way to dump someone and found that getting to the point is the best technique.
Linguistic professor Alan Manning found that when people receive bad news, they basically just want it straight up with no beating around the bush.
Manning said, "An immediate 'I'm breaking up with you' might be too direct. But all you need is a 'we need to talk' buffer - just a couple of seconds for the other person to process that bad news is coming."
So whilst it may seem a bit blunt, it's what the people want and need.
It's like a band-aid, just rip it off!
And for god's sake, don't ever do it via text message.
