People Are Freaking Out Over the Shadow This Sign Casts

A photograph from a British town Dartmouth has gone viral because of the freaky shadow this seemingly innocent sign casts.

The photo was first posted to Facebook by 24-year-old local George Johnston but it’s since been shared thousands of times and been picked up by news outlets around the world.

It's obviously a shadow from the street sign but its shape is really chilling because of the location where it was taken.

Named ‘Dead Man's Cross’ the intersection is reportedly the same location where criminals used to be hanged in the Middle Ages.

George told local paper the Torquay Herald Express that he just snapped photo with his phone as he had left his fancy new DSLR camera at home.

"I saw it and the fact it was at Dead Man's Cross made it more spooky.”

Speaking to the Western Morning News, George elaborated: "It is an area known as Dead Man's Cross and is where a gallows used to be. I think they used to hang traitors there. “

"The location has a lot of history and it certainly sent a chill down my spine when I saw the hanging man.

"There has been a great response to it and the picture certainly seems to be getting around.”
