Ella Enchanted Is getting a Disney+ series

Disney+ is developing an Ella Enchanted streaming series, and Anne Hathaway is coming along for the ride.

According to Deadline, the series (based on the 2004 film starring Hathaway) is in development at Disney+, with Hathaway signed on as executive producer. The script comes from Ilana Wolpert, co-writer of Anyone but You, bringing some sharp contemporary instincts to the project.

Miramax Television and Paramount Television Studios are behind the adaptation, which takes the familiar story of Ella, a teenager cursed with total obedience, and reimagines it in a boarding school setting, giving the concept some fresh legs.

For Hathaway, it marks a return to Disney territory. She broke out with the studio via The Princess Diaries and now steps back in with considerably more creative control, producing the series rather than starring in it.

No casting or release date has been confirmed yet, but with Hathaway's involvement and a strong writer attached, this one is worth watching.
