A Michigan doctor could be facing a 175-year sentence who intentionally misdiagnosing hundreds of healthy patients with cancer in order to line his pockets.

A sentencing hearing began Monday for Dr. Farid Fata, who gave unnecessary cancer treatments to 553 patients. Fata was arrested back in 2013 for the health care fraud.

“There is no real justice,” victim Geraldine Parkin said, adding that she hopes her anger and frustration will finally go away once Fata is sentenced.

After pleading guilty to 16 charges, including fraud conspiracy, and money-laundering, the doctor is being forced to hear the ordeals of people whose lives he ruined as the judge arrives at a sentence.

Nearly three dozen ex-patients and family members, many dressed in black, chartered a bus to attend the hearing.

One victim, Robert Sobieray never had cancer. Two years of treatment caused him to lose all his teeth, and he now has a permanent twitch.

Jeff Berz, of Utica, said his father, Milton Berz, died in 2008, a year after being diagnosed with leukemia.

He recalled the 81-year-old getting treatments while sitting in Fata's parking garage.

'Dr. Fata told my dad it would make it easier. His kidneys eventually failed,' Berz said following Fata's arrest.

'Did the drugs kill him or the cancer? I don't have any definitive answers, but I do have my suspicions.

'Every time I turn around, I'm running into somebody who knows somebody who was treated by Dr. Fata. This is so widespread.'
