Crazy Weather Hits Wellington

A Wellington landmark appears to have been hit by lightning.
A Wellington woman has tweeted a picture of the zephrometer in Kilbirnie, also known as The Needle, blackened at the ends, with pieces of it on the ground.
She says she's still shaking, and it was like a huge explosion.
A hail storm, accompanied by some thunder and lightning hit the capital just after 2pm.
Rain is set to continue, then ease into showers, while cold gales will buffet the city.
