Puerto Rican taxi driver Victor Perez didn’t want to go out like everyone else when he eventually passed.
The 73-year-old who lost his battle with cancer requested that at his wake, his family members ditch the idea of a traditional coffin and in turn, replace it with his beloved taxi. And that’s exactly what they did.
Family members propped Victor up in his Toyota Corolla, where he gripped his steering wheel for one last time wearing a hat, tie and a pair of white gloves. A floral wreath lay right behind him in his back seat.
He was known by everyone as “Vitín the Driver” in the town of Aguas Buenas, where he drove his taxi for 15 years. Hundreds of mourners turned up to the wake to pay their final respects.
Speaking to El Nuevo Dia, his daughter, Generosa Perez Torres, said:
"He was a people person and I told him to have his wake in his own taxi. It’s never been done before here."
