This is the bedroom of a French soldier who died in battle in 1918 that has been left untouched for almost a century in honour of his memory.
The Daily Mirror reports that Hubert Rochereau’s parents left his bedroom in the village of Belabre untouched when the young soldier fell in a battle on the Western Front in the final year of World War I: 1918.
His parents eventually sold the house, in the central French village of Belabre, southeast of Le Mans, in 1936, with the instruction that the bedroom remain untouched for 500 years.
The current owner Daniel Fabre continued the tradition saying that although there is no legal basis to the claim, he believed it was the right thing to do.
Artefacts of the time include books, writing implements, a candelabra and religious items which look the full extent of their 100 years.
