Why Planes Still Have Ashtrays Even Though You're Not Allowed to Smoke On Them

Those ashtrays in planes bathrooms...there's still a reason they exist! Smoking has been banned on flights for for around 20 years but they are basically there "just in case".
People can't be trusted to follow the rules!
There are signs telling you not to smoke everywhere… and an ashtray right underneath.

It was a fire that caused a plane to crash in 1973, killing 123 people… and it was suspected that the fire may have been started by a cigarette.
