Michael Jackson Tributes
The outpouring of grief over the death of Michael Jackson continues.
Elizabeth Taylor, after declining comment last night, released a brief statement. "I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words."
Michael's old friend Corey Feldman says, "I come to you today with great sadness, acknowledging the loss of the greatest entertainer in the history of mankind. For me he was more than that, he was my idol, he was a role model, he was someone to cry to when my childhood was unbearable, he was a brother, he was a dear friend. Unfortunately Michael and I had a falling out on September 10th, 2001 and that broken friendship had never been repaired. I am filled with tremendous sadness and remorse."
Even the Governator has chimed in. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says, "Michael was a pop phenomenon who never stopped pushing the envelope of creativity. Though there were serious questions about his personal life, Michael was undoubtedly a great entertainer, and his popularity spanned generations and the globe."
Jane Fonda writes on Twitter, "I am stunned. My friend, Michael Jackson, is dead. He lived with me for a week on the Golden Pond set after 'Thriller.'"
Dionne Warwick says, "We have lost an icon in our industry, and my heartfelt condolences go out to his family and children in this hour of sorrow that they are now going through. He will live on in my memory and most definitely through the music he shared with so many."
Legendary songwriter Lamont Dozier of Holland-Dozier-Holland says, "I knew Michael when he started out as an incredible young performer and watched him grow into one of the most outstanding talents we have witnessed in our lifetime... He had the uncanny ability to touch everyone from all generations with his songs... I was one of the lucky ones who was present at the Motown 25 when he debuted 'Billie Jean'... There was an incredible energy in the room that I can only call 'spirit' that reached out and forced everyone to their feet. It was the most powerful energy I've ever witnessed from an entertainer. Michael was not only a great artist and performer, he was a philanthropist and such a generous man whose gifts were boundless... I will miss him terribly."
