Young Mum Left Stunned By Note From Stranger

A young mum is searching for a stranger who handed her some money and a letter on a train describing her mothering skills as a “credit to her generation”.

UPDATE: Sammie found the man and met him with her son to say thanks. Watch it HERE

Sammie Welch, 23, was given the handwritten note and five pounds (NZD$10.35) as she sat cuddling her three-year-old son Rylan while he slept on her lap. The scribbled letter, written on a piece of scrap paper, was signed “man on train at table with glasses and hat”.

The mum-of-one has now launched a campaign to trace the man, who she describes as in his early 50s.

Ms Welch, who lives in Plymouth, Devon, says she “wanted to cry” at the anonymous benefactor’s generosity.

“When he handed it to me he said it had fallen out of my bag, so I just said thank you and took it from him. When I looked at it and saw what was written I was so shocked. I feel really overwhelmed by it all, it was just so lovely to get it.

“I’ve put the money in a savings account for Rylan now, I thought that was the best place for it.”

Sammie has appealed on Facebook for people to get in touch with the man.

“I wish I could remember him but I just can’t. I would love to have the opportunity to thank this man personally. He may not have Facebook but please please share this! I want to thank him for his kindness!”

“I always see things like this (on Facebook) and never thought that I one day would be on the opposite end. He shows there are still good people out there and I want him to know I am truly grateful.”
